Bandarawela Railway Station

Bandarawela is a hiker’s paradise. Trek through tea plantations, explore hidden trails and soak in the views. Diyaluma Falls is located a short drive from Bandarawela and is the perfect spot for a scenic hike. Pilkington Point is a vantage point located on top of the Poonagala Hills, offering views that extend to other districts on clearer days. Getting to the point is an hour-long walk up a trail, which is the ideal hiking opportunity. For those who love the outdoors, nearby Haputale offers camping opportunities with stunning backdrops.
Transport Options
Getting to Bandarawela is half the fun! Hop on the train from Colombo or Kandy, and you’ll be treated to one of the most scenic train rides in the world. If you prefer wheels on the ground, buses and private vehicles can get you there too.
Weather
Bandarawela enjoys a mild climate year-round, with temperatures ranging from 16°C to 26°C (60°F to 79°F). The town receives plenty of rainfall during the monsoon seasons. Rain is especially heavy in the months of April and November. The best time to visit is January up to April and June up to September, when the weather is just right—cool but not too chilly and mostly dry.
