NATIONAL PARK
Wildlife Encounters, Minus the Crowds
Kaudulla National Park is a relatively less frequented park, nevertheless an important one. Designated as a national park in 2002, it stands on the fringe of the ancient Kaudulla Wewa irrigation tank and spans an area of 6,900 hectares. Explore the diverse wildlife in a less-crowded setting at Kaudulla National Park.
Along with the Minneriya National Park, Kaudulla is well-known for its large elephant population. So, if you want to witness majestic elephants roaming freely in their natural habitat, Kaudulla is the place to be. With fewer visitors than other parks, it truly offers an intimate experience to visitors.
While elephants are the stars of the show, Kaudulla also boasts a diverse range of wildlife and birdlife. Apart from elephants, the park is home to 23 species of mammals including the Sambar Deer, Leopard and Sloth Bear. Over 160 species of birds have also been recorded here including large water birds like spot-billed Pelican and Lesser Adjutant, along with other birds such as the Black-headed Ibis, Painted Stork, Openbill Stork and Giant Eagle.
It’s a biodiversity hotspot that allows you to truly connect with nature and appreciate its wonders without the crowds.
