Itinerary

Arrival

Your tour of Colombo will kick off in the morning with one of our representatives meeting you at a pre-determined location that is most convenient for you. This location could either be the hotel you are staying at, the airport, the bus and train station, or any other miscellaneous location – whatever works best for you, just let us know and we will be there!

Your tour will include the following sites:

The Gangaramaya Temple

Your first stop on the tour would be the famous Gangaramaya Temple, which is considered one of the most important temples in Colombo. With its traditional Buddhist architecture contrasted against the rapidly developing city skyline, the Gangaramaya Temple’s timeless aura is a truly remarkable sight to behold. Drawing its architectural roots from a fusion of Sri Lankan, Thai, Indian, and Chinese styles, this stunning temple is ideally located near the calm waters of the Beira lake.

Independence Square

This site is one of the island’s most revered venues. Built as a symbol of the long and rich history of Sri Lanka, this monument singlehandedly commemorates and symbolizes the country’s day of independence, which it achieved back in 1948. At any given time of the day, the impressive Independence Square is a site that attracts both locals and tourists from around the world.

The Standing Buddha Statue and the BMICH

One of the many historical monuments hidden within the rapidly modernizing city, this Buddha statue stands at an impressive 40+ feet and was carved out of a large granite rock-face during the 5th Century. It stands directly opposite the famous Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, which was a gift from the People’s Republic of China, in memory Solomon Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike – the slain Sri Lankan Prime Minister (1956-1959).

The Colombo Museum

This venue holds numerous collections of artifacts that are of great value and importance to Sri Lanka, including the crown and throne of the ancient Kandyan Kingdom – the island’s last kingdom to fall to Colonialism.

The Hindu Temple in Bambalapitiya

Complementing the city’s vibrancy, this Hindu Temple, located in one of the busiest parts of Colombo, is a testament to the metropolis’ multicultural roots and characteristics. An observation of this temple’s activities would give you great insight into the religious practices of one of the island’s main religions.

Viharamahadevi Park

Located delicately in the heart of the city, this vast patch of greenery is the oldest, and largest park, in the port of Colombo. Located right next to the National Museum, you can expect to see droves of beautiful pieces of authentic artwork for sale, various performances and rehearsals, children playing, and an overall abundance of energy that encapsulates the city’s identity.

Kelaniya Temple

This famous temple, believed to be hallowed by Buddhists after the third and final visit of Lord Buddha – eight years after enlightenment, is part of the city’s deep-rooted history and dates all the way back to 500 BCE. To this very day, it remains one of the most revered temples in the region.

Dehiwala Zoo

The last stop on your tour includes a visit to the famous Dehiwala Zoo, where you and your family can have a great time and enjoy the opportunity of watching the zoo’s elephants putting on an incredible show!

Please note that if time permits, we will be able to accommodate additional sightseeing opportunities into your itinerary. Upon completion of the tour we will drop you back at your hotel, or any other previously specified location.
